Review of Salem or Not Fo, North Dakota

The best place to live
Star Rating - 1/17/2020
I'm a native 5th generation Oregonian, so bear in mind that I was born with webs between my toes! Anyway, I used to think it rained too much when I was young. Then I went out into the world (military) and saw it all. I got smart and moved back with my native Californian husband, who never looked back. It does rain a lot. You learn to do things in the rain--especially since it's rarely--rarely--too cold to get out in it! We live rurally and the beauty is unparalleled. The summers are truly the best on the planet. There are certainly some pretty scuzzy parts of town. Historic downtown Salem needs more TLC for sure. A lot of homeless but there are many more in every city in California, and in Portland. There are more things to do in town than when I used to live here (as the previous reviewer pointed out), but it still has a way to go before it's a

I think if you are born and raised in the Willamette Valley you're used to 7 months of rain and gloom. I have lived all across the US. I was born in NH, lived on the east coast, lived in the midwest and landed in Nevada before moving to Salem. I live in Nevada for 20 years. I really, really miss the sun. I also do not enjoy constant rain for months on end. This year, 2020, summer has gotten off to a very slow start. It is now July and I'm still wearing warm clothing. I long for warm, sunny days. I have developed SAD. Before I moved here I had friends and family say "it rains a lot there". There is no way to understand that statement until you experience it. Salem is a wonderful hub; there are so many places around Salem to go see and do. I just wish I could enjoy them more with sun. 3/4 of the year is rain and it's a shame. But, everyone is different. I will not retire here.

I bet all the people complaining about the rain, sure wish there was more of it now. Most of the west coast is in drought and on fire. I think some rain and a few clouds is better than intense heat, drought and fire.
